Overview

The M.Tech program in Electronics and Communication Engineering involves subjects which imparts the state of the art knowledge to the students to learn about design, analysis & application of electronics & communication circuits and allied areas.

 

Program Outcome (PO)

  • The courses expose students to a deep understanding of basic idea of information theory and coding, coding techniques,wireless propagation channel, Cellular Concept, 4G mobile communication,VHDL programming language, soft computing techniques such as Genetic Algorithms (GA), Fuzzy Logic and Neural Network, Digital & Spread Spectrum Communication, basics of Internet of Things, etc.
  • The course involves understanding of the physical issues in communications and its abstraction to mathematical models, followed by engineering approximation leading to a viable algorithm.
  • The course involves modeling and programming of communication events using high-end simulation software like MATLAB, SYSTEM-VUE, etc. which are intensively problem oriented.
  • The approach in this course has been to provide a strong exposure to fundamentals with full mathematical rigor in Advanced Signal Processing, 4G & 5G Communications, Electromagnetics, Wireless, IoT (Internet of Things) and Optical Communications.
  • The students are exposed to Mathematical and Algorithmic procedures in the theoretical courses complemented with MATLAB, VHDL Programming, LAB-VIEW, SYSTEM-VUE, etc.
  • As a part of the major project (1 Year), the students are expected to carry out and implement the latest trends of technological activities in the field of communication, thereby understanding that a cost effective hardware realization is possible only through simulations.
  • As a part of the completion of the major project, the students are motivated to publish their work in at least one reputed journal.
  • As a part of seminar, the students are expected to present and develop their skills in written and oral presentation of the work that they have accomplished.
  • The students are exposed to understand the prerequisites of different mathematical approaches in communication theory which will provide them with all the necessary backgrounds to pursue a career in any field of communications going forward in their career.

 

Program Specific Outcome (PSO)

  • Use the knowledge of digital signal processing, communications, networks and Electromagnetics, Antennas and CAD for VLSI to simulate algorithms in virtual environments and implement them on embedded platforms.
  • Critically and systematically integrate knowledge to analyze, estimate  solve  complex  problems and meet the challenges in the electronics and communication domain.

Eligibility

Bachelor Degree in Electrical / Electronics / Electronics & Communication / Telecommunication/ Instrumentation Engineering, as applicable, with a minimum of 55% (50% marks for SC/ST/OBC) marks or equivalent CGPA.

 

 

Admission Procedure

(one of the following entrance tests):

(i)    GATE Examination

(ii)    Screening  Test  conducted   at  SMIT  by  the concerned Department

While preparing the merit, 50% weightage is given to aggregate marks obtained in BE/B Tech and 50% weightage for marks obtained in screening test.

(iii)   Candidates   through   Entrance   Examination conducted by Manipal University, Manipal.

Four seats are reserved for Sikkim Government nominees. Candidates seeking admission under this category should contact Director - Technical Education, HRDD, Government of Sikkim.
