ANTI-RAGGING POLICY
In compliance with the orders of the Honourable Supreme Court of India, SMIT condemns all forms of ragging and to committed to take action on the same.
"RAGGING" has been made a cognizabla offence and it attracts a punishment of Rigorous Imprisionment up to three years and a fine of Rs 25,000/- or above. RAGGING has been defined as :-
"Any act causing, inducing, compelling or forcing a student whether by way of a practical joke or otherwise, to do an act which detracts from human dignity or voilates his person or exposes him to ridicule or to forbear from doing any unlawful act, by intimidating, wrongfully restraining, wrongfully confining, or injuring him or by using criminal force to him or by holding out to him any threat of such intimidation, wrongful restraint, wrongful confinement, injury or the use of criminal force."
"Any act of physical or mental abuse (including bullying and exclusion) targeted at another student (fresher or otherwise) on the ground of colour, race, religion, caste, ethnicity, place of birth, place of residence or economic background."
Also, the student accused of ragging:-
a. Will not be recommended for passport application.
b. Will be given Transfer Certificate with endrosement of criminal tendency.
c. Will be suspended immediately and expelled from SMIT after completion of enquiry.
d. Will be expelled from SMIT immediately if the evidence is proved without investigation.
