EVENT SUMMARY:

Each year, on 30th April, Sikkim Manipal Institue of Technology honours the birth anniversary of Dr. T.M.A. Pai, Padma Shri, the esteemed founder of the Manipal education and healthcare conglomerate, as Annual Day. The ceremony commemorated Dr. Pai's vision while recognizing academic excellence and fostering social responsibility amongst students.

The program commenced with the national anthem, followed by the ceremonial lamp lighting by distinguished guests. Honourable Vice Chancellor, SMU, Air Vice Marshal,(Dr.) Dilip Chandra Agarwal, VSM, served as the Chief Guest, while dignitaries including SDM Rangpo, SDPO Rangpo, Registrar SMU, Dean SMIMS, Director SMIT, Director DoR, SMU, Controller of Examination, SMU and many more, were also present. A floral tribute was paid to Dr. TMA Pai, followed by complimentary addresses from the guests. A captivating video presentation offered a historical perspective on the remarkable journey of Manipal and the visionary leadership of Dr. Pai.

Marking a significant milestone, the institute unveiled its annual report and the annual student magazine, SMITSONIAN, during the ceremony. The morning half of the program transitioned into a vibrant cultural showcase, where students enthralled the audience with their diverse talents. This artistic display preceded the highly anticipated prize distribution ceremony. Students were recognized for their academic achievements, receiving awards for their outstanding performance throughout this academic year 2023-2024.

The ceremony further acknowledged contributions beyond academics. Awards were presented to the student council, club members, sports champions, special awardees, and the best non-teaching staff member, recognizing their dedication and valuable contributions to the institute. The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) was conferred the honor of "Best Department" for its exceptional performance. Department of Information Technology (IT) was the first runner-up, and the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) secured the position of second runner-up.

The unveiling of the physical copy of SMITSONIAN served as a commemorative element, encapsulating the institute's year in review. As the formal program concluded, a flurry of photoshoots captured the celebratory spirit of the occasion.

Beyond the celebratory aspects, SMIT displayed a commitment to social responsibility by organizing a free health camp and a blood donation camp at the institute's health centre. The camp, inaugurated by the Chief Guest himself, provided students with an opportunity to contribute to a noble cause. The successful blood donation drives underscored SMIT's well-rounded approach, fostering academic excellence while nurturing a spirit of social well-being amongst its student body.

SMIT's Annual Day 2024 stands as a testament to the institute's dedication to academic excellence, cultural vibrancy, and social responsibility. The ceremony not only honored the legacy of Dr. TMA Pai, Padma Shri, but also served as a platform to recognize outstanding achievements and cultivate well-rounded individuals who excel in academics while remaining committed to the betterment of society.
