    “Bharatiya Bhasha Diwas” was celebrated on the occasion of the Janma Jayanti of Mahakavi Subramania Bharati, a multi-linguist and freedom fighter on 11th December 2022 @ 2.30 PM in Amphi Theatre, Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology. Various events such as dancing, singing, extempore, poetry and fashion show of various culture and language were organized to promote the “Language Harmony” among the students and youth of the society to nurture rich cultural oneness of the nation.

    The function was started with Ganesh Vandhana, Diya Lighting, National Anthem (played on the instruments as the ceremony opens). It was a fantastic performance and initiative taken by the SMIT students.

    Mr. Anand Jee, 1st year MBA, student of Department of Management Studies, Co- ordinator of “Bharatiya Bhasha Diwas” in his address, expressed that India is a country of diverse civilization where people are using 1650 language according to their religion. Even though the culture, tradition and language are different, but still, everyone respects each other and having a sense of brotherhood with each other.

    Prof. (Dr.) Anand Prakash Tiwary, Associate Director, Student Affairs addressed the gathering by briefing about the importance of celebrating the “Bharatiya Bhasa Diwas” on the occasion of birthday of Mahakavi Subramanian Bharati. The project of “Bharatiya Bhasha Diwas” will help the students to know about the remarkable unity of major Indian languages, culture and tradition.

    Prof. (Dr.) Gurdaman Lal Sharma, Director, Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology, congratulated the initiative taken by the students for celebrating the “Bharatiya Bhasha Diwas”. He expressed that government has started a good initiative to celebrate the language day. With the help of the students, we can take it forward. It is very important that, we came from different places must exchange our culture and can understand each other by learning different languages. With this, we can reduce the difference among each other.

    Following with that, the several events conducted such as classical dance (Kuchipudi), poetry (different languages such as Nepali, Bengali, Hindi etc.), Singing (Assamese, Nepali, Bengali, Hindi etc.), Dancing (representing with different states such as Kathak, Bengali, Sikkimese, Hindi, Tamil etc.), Extempore (with various languages such as Bengali, Malayalam, Hindi, Nepali, Telegu, Odia etc..), Stage play ( done with various languages such as Hindi, Bengali, Bihari, Haryanvi etc..), and finally the cultural event end with fashion show (representing the various cultural and traditional dresses such as Assam, Karnataka, Bengal, Sikkim, Gujarat, Haryana).

    The event was concluded with the vote of thanks by Mr. Kumar Abhishek, 1st year MCA, Department of Computer Application and Mr. Anand Jee, 1st year MBA, Department of Management Studies, Student Co-ordinator, SMIT.

    Hence the celebration of “Bharatiya Bhasha Diwas”, the students and youth where made aware about the spiritual and cultural message, emanating the need to focus on Bharatiya Bhashas for the development of the nation and “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat”.
