WHO has declared 5th May as World Hand Hygiene Day and the slogan for this year is “Why is sharing knowledge about hand hygiene still so important? because it helps stop the spread of harmful germs in healthcare.”

The Hospital Infection Control Committee (HICC), CRH observed World Hand Hygiene Day on 4th May 2024 at level 3, CRH. WHO has declared 5th May as World Hand Hygiene Day and the slogan for this year is “Why is sharing knowledge about hand hygiene still so important? because it helps stop the spread of harmful germs in healthcare.”

The theme for Hand Hygiene Day 2024 is “Promoting knowledge and capacity building of health and care workers through innovative and impactful training and education, on infection prevention and control, including hand hygiene.”

HICC conducted an essay competition for MBBS 2022 batch students on the topic “Why is sharing knowledge about hand hygiene still so important?” on the 1st of May 2024 as a part of the hand hygiene day.

HICC also conducted an awareness program on the importance of hand hygiene among standards V & VI of Mount Zion School, Lumsey on the 2nd May 2024.

On the 4th May 2024, World Hand Hygiene Day was observed in the gracious presence of Dean SMIMS, Chief Operating Officer CRH, Controller of Examination SMU, Head Operations CRH and Nursing Superintendent CRH. The program was attended by the hospital operation staff, students, nursing staff, housekeeping staff and the patients and their relatives.

The program began with a welcome speech and the introduction of the subject by Dr. Dechen Chomu Tsering, Member Secretary HICC CRH, that was followed by the insightful speech and worthy words of the Dean SMIMS. Dr. Rekha Sharma, a member of HICC simplified the importance of hand hygiene and the need to share knowledge about it in the local language. The revolving trophy for practising hand hygiene in a better way was won by MICU this year. The trophy was handed over to the MICU in charge by Dean SMIMS. The hand hygiene champion was declared for Dr. Aradhna Nazareth, an Anaesthesiologist and critical care expert. The winners of the essay competition were declared and the trophy and certificates were distributed. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Mrs. Karma Dolma, Infection Control Nurse (ICN) CRH.
