PROGRAM DETAILS

OVERVIEW

MSc Nursing is a TWO-year program. Students have excellent and challenging opportunities to explore nursing through exposure visits to Communities, Primary Health Centres, and Community Health Centres.

The college is recognized by the Indian Nursing Council, the regulatory authority for nursing education in India. The degree is awarded by the Sikkim Manipal University.

ELIGIBILITY

  1. The minimum educational requirements shall be the passing of BSc. Nursing / BSc. Hons. Nursing/Post Basic BSc. Nursing with minimum of 55% marks in aggregate. 5% relaxation of marks for SC/ST/OBC candidates will be given.
  2. The candidate should have undergone BSc. Nursing / BSc. Hons. Nursing / Post Basic BSc. Nursing in an institution which is recognized by Indian Nursing Council.
  3. The candidate should be a Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife or equivalent with any State Nursing Registration Council.
  4. BSc. Nursing graduate should have minimum one year of experience in a hospital or in a College or in a School of Nursing or in Community Health Program after registration in State Nursing Council on the day of admission.
  5. Post Basic BSc. Nursing graduate should have minimum one year of work experience prior or after in a hospital or in a College or in a School of Nursing or in Community Health Program after registration in State Nursing Council on the day of admission.
  6. The candidate registered as “Registered Nurse”( & not Midwife)  will not be eligible for specialization in “ Obstetrics & Gynaecology Nursing”
  7. Candidate shall be medically fit. The candidate, selected for admission in MSc. Nursing course shall have to submit a medical fitness certificate from a physician during the admission.
  8. Candidates who have obtained degree qualification of distance mode will not be eligible for admission
  9. The following criteria will be applied to foreign students seeking admission to MSc. Nursing course:
  • Equivalency of the degree of the candidate is to be recognized/ validated by Indian Nursing Council
  • The candidates must have no objection certificates from the Ministry of External Affairs, Govt. of India and Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

  • Many exciting and rewarding opportunities exist for nursing professionals. They can specialize in areas such as pediatrics, OBG, mental health, medical-surgical nursing and community health nursing.
  • With advanced education, they can become independent clinical specialists like nurse midwives or nurse practitioners. Nursing administration, nursing education and nursing research are the areas where nurses with Masters in nursing are having very attractive positions.
  • There is further scope for higher education and research for PGs. After MSc. nursing one can attain M. Phil and Doctorate in Nursing.
  • PGs have choices beyond hospital nursing. They can be:

NOTE :

  • The course fee will remain same for subsequent years. However, Caution Deposit (Refundable after completion of course) of Rs. 5000/- & registration Fee of Rs. 1000/- (non-refundable) which is not included in above table is to be paid at the time of admission along with applicable course fees. 
  • There is a provision of payment of annual course fees in lump sum or in two instalments. There is no provision of instalment for hostel, mess & utility charges.
  • Payment to be made either in lump sum or at least the 1st instalment during the admission. 2nd instalment to be paid in January 2025 for first year.
  • Mode of Payment
  • The fee should be remitted by a demand draft of any bank in favour of “Sikkim Manipal University” payable at “Gangtok”at the time of admission.
  • Payment of fees in cash will not be accepted under any circumstances.
