The Sikkim Manipal College of Nursing, the constituent college of Sikkim Manipal University was established in July 2001 at SMU campus ,Tadong, Gangtok for imparting the four year generic BSc Nursing Programme. The Post Basic BSc Nursing Degree Program of two year duration is introduced later on since 2010 for the General Nursing Midwifery diploma holders.
Generic BSc Nursing and Post Basic BSc Nursing programmes are directed to upgrade the critical thinking skills, competencies and standards required for practice of professional nursing. It is intended to enable the graduates to assume responsibilities as professional, competent nurse and midwife in providing promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative services.
The college offers educational and clinical experiences as well as technological exposures to the students. Students have excellent and challenging opportunities to explore nursing through exposure visits to Communities, Primary Health Centers, Community Health Centers and have access to clinical experiences in various hospitals including tertiary hospital, Central Referral Hospital and State Govt. STNM Hospital.
The College is recognised by the Indian Nursing Council & the State Nursing Council, the regulatory authorities for nursing education in India. The degree is awarded by the Sikkim Manipal University.
To build up strong clinical skills, students are placed at various health facilities including our own Central Referral Hospital, Govt. run STNM Hospital, & at Rural & Urban health centres of Sikkim. Short observational visits also arranged for firsthand experience.
