Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE) organized a one day interaction session with SMU Ph.D Scholar at SMIT seminar hall on 26-06-2024 at 3:30 PM. The aim was to provide an opportunity of Mentorship for SMU Ph.D Scholar at CDOE.
Director of CDOE (Prof.) Dr.Sourav Dhar welcomed the opportunity to mentor SMU PhD scholars. The discussion focused on various aspects:
- NAAC+ and UGC: The UGC's NAAC+ framework was mentioned, likely in the context of accreditation and quality assurance in higher education.
- Infrastructure and Career Opportunities: The Director highlighted the infrastructure of CDOE and the career opportunities it offers, emphasizing the variety available.
- Distance Education: The functionalities and advantages of distance education were discussed, noting that UGC gives equal weightage to both online and offline education formats.
- Current Programs: There are currently seven programs running at CDOE, MBA program more likely to be started.
- Learning Management System (LMS): "Lumen access" was mentioned in the context of learning tools or resources used at CDOE for educational purposes.
- Integration of Technology: This suggests that CDOE is utilizing technology effectively to support distance education and open learning programs, ensuring that students have access to a comprehensive set of educational tools and resources.
- Mentorship Role: The job description for mentors was discussed. Each mentor will handle around 250 students, with a flexible work profile that allows for virtual participation. Their role includes moderating sessions, filtering and addressing student queries, adopting virtual learning concepts, and acting as a Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for students.
- Remuneration and Recruitment: The remuneration for mentors was discussed based on the categories of PhD scholars, whether they have scholarships or not. The recruitment process includes virtual and possibly physical interviews.
- Interactive Session: There was an interactive session where PhD scholars raised queries about job expectations, timing, and other aspects. The Director addressed these queries satisfactorily.
