Training Program to caregivers of elderly with frailty syndrome

Context: Frailty refers to a loss of physiological reserve that makes a person susceptible to disability. Frailty Syndrome is a common clinical syndrome in older adults that carries an increased risk for poor health outcomes including falls, incident disability, hospitalization, and mortality. With the help of proper care and management risk arising from this syndrome can be reduced effectively.
Objective: The main objective of the program was to provide training to the caregivers of elderly with frailty syndrome.
The Final Year B.Sc. Nursing students from Sikkim Manipal College of Nursing organized a Mass Health Awareness Programme on topic “Frailty Syndrome and its management”. The programme started with a welcome speech by M.C accompanied by felicitation of guests, Mr. Arjun Magar, President, Majhi Gaon, Rangpo, Prof. Champa Sharma, Principal, SMCON, Mrs. Pranita Sharma, Associate Professor and Mr. Satyadeep Sharma, Mental Health Counsellor from PHC, Rangpo. About 20 caregivers from Majhi Gaon attended the programme. Prof. Champa Sharma trained the caregivers with the help of videos on Frailty Syndrome and discussed about its risk factors, types, its complication, its prevention, and management with the help of attractive audio-visual aids. Final year BSc. Nursung students of Sikkim Manipal College of Nursing also enlightened the audience with Role play about the importance of managing Frailty Syndrome. The programme ended with positive and encouraging feedback by the President of Maji Gaon, Rangpo and Mental Health Counsellor from PHC, Rangpo.
