The Intra-college Model United Nations Conference & Workshop was conducted by SMITMUN on the 11th of April, 2022. The overall Committee session was of 5 hour duration, in course of which:
(i) In the first half of the Committee session, students were taught the different Rules of Procedures (ROPs) and were given a glimpse of the overall flow of committee. It was an interactive session, where the students got a comprehensive understanding of how a Model United Nations Conference operates and how one can hone their public speaking and oratory skills.
(ii) In the second half, we had the live simulation of the DISEC Committee based on the aforementioned committee agenda, where the students applied what they learnt in the first half. Heated debates and deliberations on the persisting issues over South China Sea, extensive strategic planning and diplomatic lobbying were some of the exuberant skills that the students showed, representing themselves as the delegate of different countries. It taught them the essential skills of diplomacy, public speaking, problem solving and many more.
The second half of committee session was concluded by 4pm with the delegates being served some light refreshments. A feedback session was kept before wrapping up, where the presiding Chairperson of the Committee and The Secretary General of SMITMUN shared their feedback on the performance of every individual delegate based on their evaluation during the committee proceedings. The evaluation and feedback system was essential in the overall assessment of the student as a delegate and thus, was of immense help to the students to understand what areas they would need to improve on. Overall, the event was a grand success and a great enriched learning experience for all of them.
