The much-anticipated Kaalrav Fest 2024, hosted by Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT), concluded with resounding success on March 31st, after three days of vibrant performances and intense competitions. The fest, which commenced on March 29th, witnessed enthusiastic participation of many students and various colleges, setting the stage for a memorable extravaganza.

This year's fest bore the theme of Bollywood, infusing the festivities with the glitz, glamour, and vibrancy of India's iconic film industry. From colourful costumes to energetic performances, the spirit of Bollywood was palpable throughout the event, adding an extra layer of excitement and nostalgia for attendees. Kaalrav , hailed as the biggest cultural fest in North East India, lived up to its reputation as it showcased the immense talent and creativity of students from across the region.

Day 0 (29th March 2024) of the fest kicked off with an auspicious inaugural ceremony graced by the presence of Shri Ravindra Telang, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Home and Education Department, Government of Sikkim, as the Chief Guest and also the esteemed presence of several distinguished dignitaries, adding grandeur and significance to the event. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, SMU, Air Vice Marshal (Dr.) Dilip Chandra Agarwal, VSM,  Registrar SMU, Prof (Dr.) Karma Sonam Sherpa, Dean SMIMS Dr. Muralidhar M Pai, Controller of Examination (CoE), SMU, Dr. Keerthilatha M Pai, Director SMIT, Commander (Dr.) G.L. Sharma and Director, DoR, SMU Prof. (Dr.) Kalpana Sharma also graced the inaugural ceremony of Kaalrav 2024 by their presence. The President of the Student Council SMIT, Namrata Parbat, in her opening speech, highlighted the significance of the event and presented insights into Kaalrav 2024. This was followed by a welcome address from Prof. (Dr.) NK Bhattacharyya, Associate Director (Student Affairs), and a motivational speech by Director SMIT, Commander (Dr.) G.L. Sharma. The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, SMU, Air Vice Marshal (Dr.) Dilip Chandra Agarwal, VSM, shared his vision and insights, setting the tone for the fest. The Chief Guest, Shri Ravindra Telang, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Home and Education Department, Government of Sikkim, enlightened the audience with his words of wisdom, inspiring all present. The inauguration was followed by captivating performances, including dance routines and a soulful flute rendition by Prem Chettri, setting the stage for the days ahead. The ceremony concluded with an enchanting performance by Shruti Goswami, the runner-up of The Voice Kids, and Twin Strings, whose electrifying music set the atmosphere just right for the fest.

Day 1 (30th March 2024) was marked by a plethora of competitions across various categories, including group dances, solo singing, beatboxing, rapping, treasure hunt, E-games, quiz, and debate, among others. The day brimmed with talent as participants showcased their skills, vying for top honors. The evening was illuminated by two captivating performances: first, a soul-stirring rendition of traditional Nepali songs by Mantra Singing, followed by the pulsating beats of DJ Aerreo, keeping the audience grooving late into the night.

Day 2 (31st March 2024) witnessed a continuation of the excitement with events such as Mr. and Ms. Kaalrav, Battle of Bands, solo dances, street plays, and more. The day culminated with the highly anticipated prize distribution ceremony, where the guest of honour was Commanding Officer, 17 mountain division ordnance unit Col. Anuj Kumar, and in the presence of  Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, SMU, Air Vice Marshal (Dr.) Dilip Chandra Agarwal, VSM and Director SMIT Commander (Dr.) G.L. Sharma, recognizing outstanding performers and contributors to the fest. The festivities continued with a rib-tickling stand-up segment by Rajat Chauhan, evoking laughter and merriment among the audience. The grand finale was marked by a mesmerizing performance by M Sonic, captivating the crowd and bringing the curtain down on an unforgettable three-day extravaganza.

The Kaalrav Fest 2024 proved to be a resounding success, showcasing the immense talent and creativity of students from across the region. The event not only provided a platform for cultural exchange and expression but also fostered camaraderie and friendship among participants. As the curtains closed on yet another edition of Kaalrav, organizers and participants alike cherished the memories created and looked forward to future editions with renewed enthusiasm and zeal.
