The Faculty and Staff Development Cell, SMIT in association with NIT Silchar conducted a Joint Workshop on Transdisciplinary Research in the Domain of Social, Psychological, Physical and Mathematical Sciences on the 11th and 12th May 2022 at SMIT, Majhitar, Sikkim.
Funded by SERB-MATRICS grant, this workshop, part of a project granted to Dr. Rajeeb Dey, Assistant Professor, NIT Silchar, explores building Mathematical models for marital issues among dyads in the Indian scenario.
The event was inaugurated on 11th May, 2022, by Prof. G. L. Sharma, Director, SMIT. Presesnt during the event were faculty members from SMIT, SIST Sikkim and students and research scholars from both institutes. The event was graced by Prof. valentina Emila Balas from Aurel Vlaicu University of Arad, Romania.
In his inaugural speech, Prof. Sharma, Director, SMIT, stressed upon the importance of transdisciplinary research and the opportunities that remain to be explored by scientists and engineers.
The first day, had talks by Dr. Dana Rad, Aurel Vlaicu University of Arad, Romania, Dr. Anuradha Choudry, Assistant Professor, Humanities and Social Science.IIT, Kgp and Coordinator of Indian Knowledge System, AICTE, MoE, GoI and by the Principal Investigator Dr. Rajeeb Dey.
In her talk, Dr. Dana Rad presented results and findings of her research on dyads, conducted in Romania and explained in much detail the techniques and tools used for the process. Dr. Anuradha Choudry, presented the social angle, citing instances and knowledge contexts from the Indian Traditional Knowledge systems. Dr. Dey, explained the problem being handled in the Indian scenario and the issues and challenges that are faced.
Day 2 of the workshop featured a panel discussion between eminent scholars from various fields including the panellists, Dr. Jyotika Sharma Coordinator, Behaviour Management and Psychology Courses, Sikkim Manipal University, Prof. Ajeya Jha, Coordinator, Skill Development Cell, Sikkim Manipal University and Professor of Management Studies, SMIT, Dr. Asit Saha, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics, SMIT and Eminent Scientist and Dr. Rajeeb Dey. The event was coordinated by Dr. Barnali Dey, Assistant Professor, Department of Information Technology, SMIT.
The workshop opened up intellectual discussions among researchers, scientists and students who showed keen interest in the topic in particular and transdisciplinary research in general. The workshop recorded a participation by over 80 registered participants.
