8. Profile of Director
  • Professor (Dr) G L Sharma is Director, in Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT) and Professor in the department of Mechanical Engineering. He is an alumnus of IIT Bombay and is an astute administrator and academician. He has more than 35 years of experience in the Academia and Industry.  Prior to this he was Dean Students Welfare and Proctor since June 2019 at Manipal University Jaipur and Director School of Automobile, Mechanical And Mechatronics Engineering for two years from Jun 2017- Jun 2019. He has extensive blended experience of Industry (22+years) and Academia (13). Prior to joining Manipal University as founding HoD and Professor of Mechatronics Department in 2012, he served in the Indian Navy as practicing Marine Engineer and commissioned officer from 1985 -2012 for 26.5 years. He took premature retirement in the rank Commander to pursue his passion in the field of higher education. He has been instrumental in setting up three universities in the leadership position namely Manipal University Jaipur, Amity University Kolkata and JECRC University Jaipur.
