The Centre for Distance and Online Education conducted a workshop on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Women Empowerment on 10 December 2025 at 02:30 PM in the Conference Hall. The session was led by Ms. Sushmita Prasad, Assistant Professor, CDOE. The workshop aimed to strengthen legal awareness, promote gender sensitivity, and reinforce the institution’s commitment to fostering a safe and respectful campus environment.
Objectives of the Workshop
• Ensure legal compliance and enhance awareness of laws and policies related to gender-based violence.
• Provide critical legal education to faculty, staff, and students.
• Support national goals on women empowerment and gender inclusion.
• Promote a culture of respect, dignity, and equality across the campus.
Programmes and Activities Covered
• Legal Awareness and Education
• Cultural and Educational Initiatives
• Access to Support and Redressal Mechanisms
• Campaigns and Outreach
Key Focus Areas
• Gender Equality: Reinforcing equal dignity, rights, and opportunities for all genders.
• Consent Education: Highlighting bodily autonomy through simple frameworks such as “good touch – bad touch.”
• Healthy Relationships: Encouraging respectful, non-abusive interpersonal behaviour among peers.
• Upholding Dignity: Emphasising collective responsibility in safeguarding the dignity of women and girls.
Ms. Sushmita Prasad highlighted the shift from solely punitive approaches, such as the PoSH Act, to broader preventive and transformative strategies. The workshop emphasised capacity-building among both faculty and students to cultivate respectful attitudes and address concerns effectively.
She reiterated that “creating an accessible ecosystem for everyone is not only a matter of equality but also a strategic imperative for accelerating India’s growth and ensuring meaningful participation in nation-building.”
The workshop concluded with an engaging interactive session, where faculty and staff discussed real-time issues, shared insights, and explored actionable ways to further strengthen campus safety and gender sensitivity.
