The Department of Paediatrics at SMIMS was established in 1997. The department believes in training the students in a friendly environment training the students in handling paediatric diseases with empathy and compassion.

The academic activities in the department include clinical teaching rounds, seminars, journal clubs, case presentations, mortality reviews and group discussions.

We try to contribute to priming the undergraduate students with basic paediatric knowledge while helping them learn good communication skills.

MBBS:

  • Comprehensive Curriculum: A structured curriculum covering all essential aspects of pediatric medicine, including growth and development, common childhood illnesses, pediatric emergencies, and preventive care.

MD Pediatrics:

  • Advanced Training: Advanced training in specialized areas of pediatric medicine, including General Pediatrics, Developmeetal Pediatrics, Neonatology and pediatric critical care among others
  • Clinical Rotations: Extended and more intensive clinical rotations in various pediatric subspecialties to develop expertise in diagnosing and managing complex pediatric cases, as well as exposure to specialized procedures and treatments.
  • Research and Publications: Opportunities for conducting original research, publishing scholarly articles, and presenting findings at national and international conferences to contribute to the advancement of pediatric knowledge and evidence-based practice.
  • Teaching Experience: Involvement in teaching and supervising medical students, interns, and junior residents, fostering leadership skills and preparing residents for future roles as educators and mentors in academic medicine.

Health Sciences Research drives evidence based health care and widens / deepens the knowledge base of the health discipline.The medical colleges offering health professional courses should foster research activities amongst faculty and students that would inculcate research aptitude amongst the present and the prospective health care professionals.
