The Department of Anatomy at SMIMS was established in the year 2001 and combines a rich history of teaching clinically relevant human anatomy to undergraduate and postgraduate students, along with innovative research expertise into the morphological and molecular basis of cellular anatomy.

The department has experienced teaching and non-teaching staff with an illustrious museum, well-equipped dissection hall, histology lab and a research lab.

Teaching is peer-reviewed and conducted in a blended mode as small and large groups, online and offline.

VISION

To provide, comprehensive knowledge of the gross and microscopic structure in the development of the human body.

To provide, a basic for understanding the clinical correlation of organs and structures involved in the anatomical basis for the disease presentation

MISSION

The mission of department of anatomy is to imbibe the students with excellent knowledge of anatomy and medical professional training, to prepare the students for future academic pursuits.

Our mission is to promote outstanding knowledge in the anatomical skills by developing excellence in medical education for their future pursuits which would help in to providing quality service to humanity.

Museum of Anatomy with specimens/models/charts

Key Features

  • Dissection hall is equipped with a revolving camera, display screen, WIFI, prosected and undissected specimens.
  • Histology lab is furnished with over 100 self-illuminated, mono-ocular microscopes, magnus microscope with CCD camera attached to LCD monitor for demonstration of histology slides and WIFI.
  • Research Lab for conducting histopathological and immunohistochemical studies is endowed with working tables, microtomes, cryostat, western blot tanks and many other equipment’s.
  • Small and large lecture halls are facilitated with LCD projector, portable OHP, WIFI and online class recording tools.
  • The Department additionally hosts seminars, conferences, webinar for students and faculties regularly and collaborates with other departments of SMIMS, and with the Biomolecular Research Unit of Sheffield Hallam University, United Kingdom and Clinical Anatomy Unit, University of Bristol, United Kingdom for fully funded intra and extramural research activities.

Health Sciences Research drives evidence based health care and widens / deepens the knowledge base of the health discipline.The medical colleges offering health professional courses should foster research activities amongst faculty and students that would inculcate research aptitude amongst the present and the prospective health care professionals. Such research activities requires structure, plan and coordination. The SMU Research is formed with the mandate of coordinating all activities related to research of faculty / students across all health disciplines.
