The Department of Community Medicine at SMIMS was established in 2001. It aims to inculcate in the students the value-based education.
Academic activities include teaching and training in Public Health, epidemiology, statistics, community diagnosis, research projects through interactive classroom teaching, clinical postings in the community, involvement in National Health Programmes and health education projects to Medical undergraduate and Post graduate students.
The department contributes immensely to empower the undergraduates as physicians of first contact in the rural areas and postgraduates as public health Specialist ensuring equity and quality health care.
