The Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at SMIMS was established in 1997 and it deals with the health care of women during pregnancy, childbirth and the post delivery period. It also treats diseases related to female reproductive organs.

The department of OBG has endoscopy, ultrasonography and hysteroscopy facilities. All the high risk pregnancy cases undergo foetal health evaluation by Cardiotocography and Ultrasonography.

The department started the DNB program in 2006 and since then it has achieved hundred percent successes. It also provides quality obstetric services.

The department works in close liaison with the state government hospital at Gangtok for student’s academic activities.

Health Sciences Research drives evidence based health care and widens / deepens the knowledge base of the health discipline.The medical colleges offering health professional courses should foster research activities amongst faculty and students that would inculcate research aptitude amongst the present and the prospective health care professionals. Such research activities requires structure, plan and coordination. The SMU Research is formed with the mandate of coordinating all activities related to research of faculty / students across all health disciplines.
