I deem it my privilege to welcome you to join SMIMS. At SMIMS we strive for excellence in teaching, research and promoting the health of East Indian population. Our goal is, to make our students understand the subjects in the medical field well and develop both professional skills and attitudes so that they feel confident to serve not only in India but also anywhere in the world. We want to inculcate in our students, the habit of ethical practice and encourage them to be compassionate doctors.

Over the last 20 years SMIMS has created a niche for itself by being consistently ranked among the top 10 emerging medical colleges in India (ranked 8^th in India and 1^st in East India as per “India Today” survey July 2021). This has been possible because of the dedicated and erudite faculty; and world class facilities for learning.  Our college has produced some of the most successful doctors in India and abroad. SMIMS has its own teaching hospital - Central Referral Hospital (CRH), the only state of the art private hospital in the state of Sikkim. The Government of Sikkim, under the public private partnership has kindly allowed our students to have clinical skills learning at the State Government run Tertiary Care Hospital and PHUs.

The medical college also has a good reputation in the field of research. Many of our faculty have received research grants from various government and non-government organizations. Students are encouraged to participate in ICMR funded research projects and present them in Student Research Conferences. We also encourage our students to participate in co-curricular activities and sports.
