OVERVIEW

 

The Department of Physiology started with the inception of the SMIMS in 1999. Department caters to the teaching of Medical and allied health sciences (MBBS, MD, PhD, BPT, B.Sc. Nursing and Diploma courses in various paramedical courses).

The Research activities of the department encompasses varied fields. At present there are 5 registered PhD scholars. The department follows the CBME curriculum for the MBBS, as per NMC guideline and for allied health sciences UGC and other regulatory bodies guidelines.

The department has permission from the NMC for intake of three MD Physiology candidates. Most of the faculties are trained for CBME and AETCOM under the supervision of NMC Regional centre for Medical Education Technology. The department also imparts value added course in Yoga.

  • Equipped with the advanced instruments for all types of basic and applied clinical experiments.
  • Problem based learning, small group teaching, self-directed learning is implemented for all the courses.  
  • Competency based medical education is implemented in the process of training and grooming an Indian medical graduate and other graduates. 

CORE COMPETENCIES

  • To develop a strong foundation for future Indian Medical Graduate by making them competent to learn “How a human body functions in normal and other supra-normal environments?”
  • To motivate the young and interested doctors in acquiring the higher knowledge of physiology either by joining the ‘post-graduate’ courses or the ‘research’ programmes of physiology.
  • To help and facilitate the researches to contribute in the development.
