Physiotherapists worldwide strive to maximise the quality of life and movement within the spheres of promotion, prevention, treatment/intervention, motor control, learning and rehabilitation.
World Physiotherapy Association was founded in 1951 on 8th September, by 11 national physiotherapy associations as World Confederation for Physical Therapy which held its first general meeting in Copenhagen, Denmark. World Physiotherapy now represents more than 600,000 physiotherapists worldwide through its 128 member organisations.
In 1996, 8 September was designated as World PT Day. The day marks the unity and solidarity of the global physiotherapy community. It is an opportunity to recognise the work that physiotherapists do for their patients and community. Using World PT Day as a focus, World Physiotherapy Association aims to support member organisations in their efforts to promote the profession and advance their expertise. The focus for this year’s World PT Day is “Low back pain, and the role of physiotherapy in its management and prevention”.
Sikkim Manipal College of Physiotherapy since its inception in 2001 has strived for excellence not only in education but patient care as well.
Under Unnad Bharat Scheme SMCPT has adopted 5 villages from Pakyong District and organised the 1st Mega Health Camp on occasion of World Physiotherapy Day on 13th September 2024.

The team was also accompanied by the support staff from Pharmacy, CRH.
The camp benefitted 65 patients who came to seek help for their varied health problems along with 12 secondary students from the village who were not only screened by the Paediatrician but also educated about the importance of Hand Hygiene.
