Two days BASIC FOR NURSES ON WARDS critical care course for Nurses of CRH was conducted on 1^st and 2^nd February 2024, in level 6 skill Lab SMIMS building. There were series of lectures and hands on skill stations for two days. It was taken by two Resource person from abroad and certified instructors of CRH, SMIMS trained during Phase I under the supervision of intensivist from the abroad. Training was organized by Dr Aradhna Nazareth, Professor and HOD  Department of Critical Care and Dr Lhamo Dolma, Assistant Professor, Department of Anaesthesiology under the guidance of advisory Dr. Mingma Lhamu Sherpa, Professor and Head Department of Biochemistry & Co Chair SFCDC, SMU. Training was facilitated by two resource faculties who were senior Intensivist:- Dr. Ross Callum Freebairn from New Zealand and Dr Monika Gulati from Singapore. It was attended by total of 25 Nurses from CRH. A month before this session a hard copy of course manual were distributed to all the participant to read.

Inaugural Session

The training program was inaugurated by honourable Vice Chancellor, Sikkim Manipal University AVM (Dr.) Dilip Chandra Agarwal VSM (Retd).  Dean SMIMS Dr. Muralidhar V Pai, Registrar SMU, Head HR SMU, AMS CRH, COO CRH, HOD of clinical department, Principal SMCON and Nursing Superintendent and ANS CRH were the Special Invitees who graced the inaugural session. The session started with a welcome address by Dr Aradhna Nazareth, Professor  & HOD, Department of Critical Care. The Honourable Vice Chancellor in his address emphasized on the need and importance of training of Doctors and Nurses at all capacity which will enable them to provide quality service in the wards and Emergency Department. He also congratulated the organizing team and SFCDC for organizing and continuing in conducting the training under SFCDC for Nurses working in different wards and Emergency of CRH. Dean Sir congratulated the team and appreciated the resource faculties for conducting the workshop. Dr. Mingma Lhamu Sherpa Professor and Head Department of Biochemistry & Co- Chair SFCDC gave a presentation on Introduction to Capacity Building Council of SMU. Inaugural session ended with a vote of thanks by Dr Lhamo Dolma, Assistant Professor, and Department of Anaesthesiology. It was followed by a technical session for a period of two days

DAY 1:1^st February 2024

The Day started with registration and the introduction of resource person which was done by Dr Aradhna Nazareth, Professor  & HOD of Department of Critical Care. Then introduction to BASIC4NOW course was done by the resource person Dr Ross Callum Freebairn. After that five lectures were taken by the instructors (Doctors And Senior Nurses of CRH) and two lectures by the resource person from 8:00 AM to 12:40 PM. After lunch Break six Hands on Skill Stations were taken from 1:25 PM to 5:45 PM. The Transport skill station was the live skill station. The topics for lectures and skill Station covered were:

DAY 2: 2^nd February 2024

Five lectures were given by the instructors and two lectures by the resource person from 9:00 AM to 12:45 PM. Six Hands on Skill Stations were taken after the lunch from 1:30 PM to 4:45 PM. The session was followed by online Post-Test and Valedictory session. Online Post Test was conducted from 4:45 PM to 5:45 PM. The topics for Lectures and Skill Station covered were:

Valedictory Session

The last technical session was followed by Valedictory session on the second day from 5:45pm. Co-Chair SFCDC Prof Mingma Lhamu Sherpa graced the session and distributed the Certificates to the participants, trained instructors and the organizing team. The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Aradhna Nazareth Organizing Secretary to the participants, resource faculty, Advisory for guidance and AMS CRH for providing the logistic and financial support for the training program.

Feedback:

Feedback was obtained using self - structured google form. Total 25 participants have given their feedback. Findings are as follows:

Feedback day 1: 279 responses

• Out of all the topic maximum rating was given to NIV management in the ward (10%) followed by transport of critically ill patient (9.3%), routine nursing care (9.3%) and acute respiratory failure II (9%).
• Among all the skill station maximum rating was given to CPR station (8.65) followed by Airway (8.2%) and Acute respiratory failure (7.5%).
• 84.2% of the participants gave excellent rating to the topics covered, 11.1% gave very good and 4.7% gave good.
• 80.3% of the participants gave excellent rating to the relevance of the topics covered, 14.7% gave very good and 5% gave good.
• 79.9% of the participant gave excellent rating to the quality of information provided and 14.7% gave very good.
• 80.3% of the participants gave excellent rating to the knowledge and attitude of the facilitators and 14.7% gave very good.
• 95.7% of the participants said the training met their requirement.
• 95.7% of the participants said that the training provided the valuable information to help them perform their job as a trainer.
• Few participant expressed that the lectures were very informative, interesting, classes were useful and it was worth attending the workshop.

Feedback day 2: 296 responses

• Out of all the topic maximum rating was given to Trauma (8.8%) followed by shock (8.4%), Pain management (8.4%), Sepsis (8.1%) and communication (8.1%).
• Among all the skill station maximum rating was given to Trauma station (8.1), shock (8.1%) followed by Sepsis (7.1%) and Arrhythmia (6.8%).
• 89.2% of the participants gave excellent rating to the topics covered, 6.4% gave very good and 4.4% gave good.
• 89.5% of the participants gave excellent rating to the relevance of the topics covered, 6.1% gave very good and 4.4% gave good.
• 87.8% of the participant gave excellent rating to the quality of information provided and 7.8% gave very good.
• 87.5% of the participants gave excellent rating to the knowledge and attitude of the facilitators and 7.4% gave very good.
• 100% of the participants said the training met their requirement.
• 99.7% of the participants said that the training provided the valuable information to help them perform their job as a trainer.
• Few participant expressed that the workshop was Excellent and interseting.

Credentialing:

Average Pre-test course score was 39.8% and post course score was 92%. Average score was 11.96 in post course test. Each participant was awarded with participant certificate .The passing certificate was awarded to 23 participant who scored more than 50% in post-test.
