The Department of Medical Biotechnology, Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences organized a one day workshop on “Molecular Modeling Using PyMOL under the patronship of Dr. Murlidhar V Pai, Dean, SMIMS, on 12th September 2023. The event was supported by by Dr. Ramdas Pai and Mrs. Vasanthi Pai Endowment Fund, SMU. The event was successfully conducted for total of sixty-four participants including Ph.D Scholars, M.Sc Medical Biotechnology Students and the Faculty members of the various Departments of SMIMS, SMU and Sikkim University.
The aim of this workshop was to provide a comprehensive understanding of the importance of molecular modeling tools in drug design and development. The inaugural program was addressed by Dr. Bidita Khandelwal (Director, DoR, SMU), and Dr. Arundhati Bag (HoD, Dept of Medical Biotechnology, SMIMS). They emphasized the importance of the bioinformatics workshop, and urged the students and scholars to take advantage of it.
Technical session began with keynote lectures by the invited speakers Prof. S. Thiyagarajan from Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology, Bangalore, and Dr. Anil Bhattarai, Assistant Professor, Dept of Medical Biotechnology, SMIMS. The hands- on session included demonstration and data- base activities on protein structure modeling and drug designing by the resource persons. The workshop was curated by Ms Chamma Gupta and Mr. Abhishek Byahut, members of organizing committee, Dept of Medical Biotechnology, SMIMS.
