On 16th March 2024 a camp on "Identification and Assessment Camp for Children with Special Needs( age 3-18) " was organised by members of Persons with Disabilities Community of Sikkim in the Paediatric OPD of old STNM from 9 am to 5 pm. Six students from Sikkim Manipal College of Nursing namely Ms. Geeta Chettri , Ms. Srijana Tamang (Interns) , Ms. Aastha Chettri, Ms. Saradhaya Sharma (6th Semester), Ms. Muskan Gurung ( 4th semester) and Ms.Auzna Chettri ( 2nd semester) went as volunteers representing Sikkim Manipal College of Nursing. The students started their journey on 8:30 am from the college premises and reached at 8:50 am. The students along with the executive members of PDCS , the Doctors namely Dr. Lakhmit Lepcha, Dr. Thapa, Dr. Kinjum S Lepcha(Paediatric Physiotherapist), Dr. Bina Tamang ( ENT specialist),Dr Karma, Dr Amir Tamang (eye specialist), Dr Geeta Gurung (psychiatrist) ,Mr Saurav Chettri( Speech therapist), Mr Enchuk D Namgyal , Ms Archana Chettri (clinical psychologist), Pema Ongyal Bhutia( counsellor )and the other volunteers worked together enthusiastically towards helping the children for assessment and issuing the disability certificate for eligible children. The children and the Special Educators of respective wards were also provided with lunch and travel allowance. The program ended at 5 pm. The students were also provided travel allowance to commute to their respective residence. The program ended successfully with a turn up of 52 children in total.
