REPORT ON PRACTICAL LEARNING EXPERIENCE ON SUSTAINABLE PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT ORGANIZED BY DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE, FHSS&LA
On 11th November 2024 the students of B. Com First Semester, Department of Commerce, Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences and Liberal Arts, undertook a hands-on, practical learning experience with a focus on sustainability and eco-friendliness as a part of their course assignment of Financial Accounting-I in the presence of Dr. Ruchita Sharma. The students were divided into six groups. Each group presented their product along with the cost, expenditure, legal formalities required and the price of the product taking into consideration the cost of production. Products such as paper pens, bamboo pens, cloth sanitary pads with bamboo fibres, candles infused with the fragrance of natural ingredients and tshampa were presented by the students.
The learning outcome of the assignment was to ensure exposure to the process of product development and related phases, determination of the expenditure and cost of production, practical aspect of the development, creation, and determination of the price of the product, usage of sustainable and eco-friendly raw materials, branding, cost-effectiveness, profit margin, and marketing aspect of the products. The session concluded with a Question-and-answer session and group discussion for further improvement of the product.
This practical assignment served as an invaluable learning experience for B. Com first semester students. Through the process of developing eco-friendly products, they not only applied their academic knowledge but also gained a deeper understanding of the importance of sustainability in business. The assignment fostered creativity, critical thinking, and teamwork, all while equipping students with the necessary tools to approach product development and business management with a sustainable mindset.
This hands-on experience will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on the students as they continue their academic journey and explore future career opportunities in business and finance.
