On November 8, 2024, the Department of English, in collaboration with the Drama Club of the Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Liberal Arts (FHSSLA), Sikkim Manipal University, hosted a special lecture focusing on theatre by Shri Souti Chakraborty, Centre Director of the National School of Drama, Sikkim Centre, Gangtok.

Mrs. Srijana Sharma, Convenor of FHSSLA, delivered the welcome address, introducing the esteemed speaker, Shri Souti Chakraborty, Centre Director of the National School of Drama, Sikkim Centre. She emphasized the significance of theatre in shaping cultural discourse and fostering creativity within society. Dr. Madan Chettri, Coordinator of FHSSLA, spoke about the role of theatre in educational and social settings, underscoring its importance as a tool for promoting critical thinking, emotional expression, and cultural exchange.

Shri Souti Chakraborty, the esteemed speaker for the day, delivered an engaging and thought-provoking lecture on theatre. His presentation highlighted the evolution of theatre, the significance of performance, and the responsibility of artists to engage with life through their work.

The session concluded with a lively Q&A session, allowing students to ask questions and gain deeper insights into the practical aspects of theatre production and the artistic process. Shri Souti Chakraborty provided candid advice to aspiring actors, directors, and playwrights in attendance.

Finally, the event concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Ms. Priyanka Sharma, Coordinator of the Drama Club at FHSSLA. She expressed gratitude to all the speakers, participants, and attendees, highlighting the importance of such events in promoting the arts and enhancing appreciation for theatre within the academic community.
