Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences and Liberal Arts, Sikkim Manipal University held the Deeksharambh 2024 – Student Induction Programme from August 16th to 23rd, 2024. The purpose of Deeksharambh – Student Induction Programme is to help new students adjust and feel comfortable in the new environment, inculcate in them the ethos and culture of the institution, help them build bonds with other students and faculty members, and expose them to a sense of larger purpose and self-exploration.
The schedule for Deeksharambh 2024 was as follows:
Day 1 (General) 16th August – The students received an official welcome from SMU, including addresses by Dr. Murlidhar Pai (Dean SMIMS), Mrs. Srijana Sharma (Convenor, FHSSLA), and Dr. Madan Chhetri (Coordinator, FHSSLA). The faculty members from FHSSLA spoke on the overall functioning of FHSSLA. The university examination structure, rules and regulations were covered by Ms. Deepa Sharma, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce; Dr. Aditya Rai, Associate Professor, Department of Commerce spoke on Discipline; Dr. Madan Chhetri provided an overview of the National Education Policy 2020 and Dr. Bonita Pradhan, Assistant Professor covered the anti-ragging policy and grievance redressal.
Day 2 (Socialization) 17th August – The students met other new students and interacted with senior students. They attended a special lecture on start-ups and businesses by Prof. Tej Chingtham Singh, CEO of Atal Incubation Centre Sikkim Manipal University Technology Business Incubation Foundation (AIC-SMUTBI).
Day 3 (Association) 19th August – The students were given a tour of the university campus.
Day 4 (Governance) 22nd August – Ms. Tenzing Doma Bhutia, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science and Teacher Guardian of BA 1st year and Dr. Ruchita Sharma, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce and Teacher Guardian of BCom 1st year briefed regarding the rules and regulations of the university, about the various student support services and mentoring.
Day 5 (Experiencing)- The students were informed regarding the extra-curricular activities in FHSSLA by Mr. Prapanch Sarmah, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce. Mr. Prayash Gupta, Assistant Professor, Department of English and Ms. Priyanka Sharma, Assistant Professor, Department of English, provided an overview of the different clubs at FHSSLA. Mr Uttam Kumar Upadhyaya, Assistant Professor, Department of English, spoke about the National Service Scheme (NSS) at SMU. Dr. Madan explained the implementation of NEP 2020 at FHSSLA to the students.
