BRIEF DESCRIPTION:

The Sikkim Model United Nations (SMITMUN) successfully conducted a Model United Nations (MUN) workshop at a nearby government school on April 4th, 2024.  This initiative aimed to raise awareness about MUN simulations and foster an interest in international relations among younger students.

A dedicated team from SMITMUN, led by Secretary-General Kumar Aakarsh and Deputy Secretary-General Debasmita Sarma, visited the school.  The team comprised Director-General Reza Pradhan, Director of Research Adrija Chakrabarti, Under-Director General Rudraksh Chakraborty, and research intern Aman Kumar.

Warmly received by the school children, the SMITMUN team integrated their workshop into the morning assembly program, mindful of the students' schedule.  Following introductions by the Secretary-General, Director of Research Adrija Chakrabarti initiated the session by explaining the core concepts of simulations and diplomatic representation within the context of MUN.  The students' keen interest fueled an engaging discussion. Aman Kumar then delved into the significance of Indian politics in the global arena, while Rudraksh Chakraborty explored the concept of geopolitics, further enriching the students' understanding of international affairs.

To ensure continued engagement, the SMITMUN team connected with a senior student to serve as a liaison for any students interested in participating in their upcoming conference,  "SUMMIT SIKKIM 8.0." The visit concluded with a group photo and a token of appreciation, handcrafted by a local company run by an SMIT student, for the students' insightful participation.  This thoughtful gesture served as a fitting finale to a successful and inspiring workshop.
