BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
1) Highlights of Events:
- An overview of Boston Scientific was presented.
- R&D IT Team of Boston Scientific presented its role and responsibilities.
- IT Team demonstrated various technologies use cases.
- Visit to Boston Scientific state-of-the-art facilities.
- One-on-one discussion with Institutes.
2) Major Inputs:
- SMIT's One-Year Internship initiative was appreciated.
- Boston Scientific will explore this for talent acquisition. However, it will have to check its budgetary constraints - presently it has approval for 6-Months Internships.
- Regarding skill sets / knowledge, Data Structure, Algorithms, and other CS/IT core subjects like OS, Networks, DBMS etc. will continue to remain their fundamental requirement. Additionally, AI/ML/Cyber Security has been recommended to be integrated as part of the curriculum.
3) Hiring Prospects:
- Boston Scientific has trimmed colleges and now will focus only on very limited institutes. SMIT is one such focused institute and hiring is almost certain for the 2025 pass-out batch.
- Typically, they start hiring in Nov every year, however, given the provision of a 1-year long internship by SMIT, Boston will check internally and may start hiring earlier.
- In terms of streams, CSE, IT are certainly on their list. However, AI&DS along with ECE have been requested for consideration, which in principle they have agreed.
4) Conclusion:
- The Boston Scientific meeting was successful.
- AI&DS and ECE streams have been considered for hiring in addition to CS/IT streams.
- Insights on courses have been received.
- The personal meeting has strengthened the association between SMIT & Boston Scientific.
