BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
Shri Ravi G.R., ITS, Special Director General, Department of Telecommunication, Ministry of Communications, Govt. of India, visited Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology on 22nd May 2024. He was accompanied by Shri Mahmud ur Reheman, ITS, Dy. DG, DoT, GoI, and other officials of DoT.
Cdr. (Dr.) G. L. Sharma, Director, SMIT, formally welcomed the dignitaries and presided over a meeting where various aspects of government initiatives in communication, especially for the state of Sikkim, were discussed. The meeting also explored possibilities for start-ups and product development related to various 5G use cases.
The Director of SMIT presented the status of the 5G Use Case Lab being set up at SMIT and assured that the lab would be effectively utilized to meet local, national, and global challenges. The officials also visited the 5G Lab at SMIT, where they reviewed the progress being made and expressed satisfaction with the development. They expressed confidence that the 5G Lab at SMIT would become one of the pioneers in developing 5G and cutting-edge technologies.
Dr. S.N. Sur and Dr. Arun Singh, Coordinators of the Lab, briefed the officials about the installation of the equipment and its current status. Dr. Bikash Sharma, HoD ECE, SMIT, informed that the first phase of the 5G Use Case Lab at the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering, SMIT, is up and running. He emphasized that SMIT would collaborate effectively with all stakeholders to leverage the potential of the 5G lab.
