BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
On the 23rd of July 2024, IAESTE CI SMU was pleased to welcome Miss Ichrak Khaldi hailing from Tunisia- the first exchange student of the 2024-25 term of IAESTE. She was welcomed at Bagdogra Airport by Ms. Sneha Barman.
After a journey through the scenic mountains of East Sikkim, Ichrak was warmly welcomed by her assigned 'buddies' Muskan Shah, Niharika Mahanta, Tanushka Singh, and Jayasmita Roy, who also presented her with a welcome hamper comprising hostel essentials and some IAESTE merchandise on her arrival at the SMIT campus.
A formal felicitation session was arranged thereafter, where teacher coordinators Dr. Santonu Savapondit and Dr. Joydeep Biswas presented the intern with Sikkim's traditional 'Khada', officially welcoming her into a wonderful tenure with IAESTE CI SMU. Now officially a part of the SMIT family, Ichrak shared a few words about her experience in a new country and her enthusiasm to explore and learn along the way.
A fierce traveller at heart, Ichrak was determined to explore Sikkim to the best of her ability. IAESTE interns automatically stood up to the occasion, accompanying her to the most beautiful spots in East Sikkim. They covered Namchi, Ravangla, the infamous MG Marg at Gangtok, and feasted on the most delectable of traditional North Eastern cuisines.
On the 15th of August 2024, we were overjoyed to celebrate Ichrak's birthday at SMIT. A celebration was organized by IAESTE interns in the Marena food court, where she was greeted with a rousing reception from IAESTE body and the teacher coordinators. A delicious chocolate cake awaited her, with snacks and refreshments for all. As Ichrak blew the candles marking her 21st birthday, we reveled in the joy of getting to celebrate her special day with her.
In the subsequent weeks of her internship tenure, Ichrak spent her time working on the design and development of a patch antenna for 5G applications, under the able mentorship of Dr. Arun Kumar Singh, Asst. Professor, Department of Electronics and Communications Engineering.
As the final week of the intern's stay at SMIT approached, a gathering was organized on 5th September 2024 by IAESTE to present her with her Certificate of Achievement and promised stipend. With bonds and friendships being forged over the months of Ichrak's stay, it was indeed very difficult to bid her farewell. Photos were clicked, goodbyes were shared, and memories were created which will forever be cherished by the organization.
Thanks to the constant guidance of Dr. Santonu Savapondit and Dr. Joydeep Biswas, who tirelessly worked for the event behind the scenes, IAESTE was able to oversee Miss Ichrak Khaldi's stay in a very organized and successful manner. Coupled with the constant efficiency and swift assistance of the IAESTE interns, hosting the intern was a great success, officially adding to a new chapter in the history of IAESTE CI SMU at the Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology.
