The Hospital Infection Control Committee, CRH observed World Hand Hygiene Day on 5th May 2023. The slogan for this year as given by WHO is “Accelerate action together. Save lives-clean your hands.” On this occasion, a program was held in CRH which was attended by Dean, SMIMS, Dr, Muralidhar V. Pai, Dr Keerthilatha M Pai, Controller Examinations, Dr Supratim Dutta, Associate Dean Student Affairs, Dr.(Col) N.S. Chhabra ,Officiating Medical Superintendent , Dr Dechen C Tsering, Member Secretary, HICC, Heads of various departments , MBBS students and Nursing staff.
The event started with a welcome address by the Officiating Medical Superintendent followed by an address from Dean, SMIMS. A brief talk was given by Dr Dechen on hand hygiene and this year’s theme “Accelerate action together. SAVE LIVES – Clean Your Hands”
An essay competition was held for 2nd year MBBS students. The first three winners were given trophies and certificates. Also, the “Hand Hygiene Champion” trophy was awarded to Physiotherapy team of ICU for following the best practices of hand hygiene.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks by ICN, HICC, CRH
WHO has said that now is the critical time to accelerate implementation of lessons learnt from COVID-19 pandemic. Hand hygiene saves millions of lives every year when performed at the right moments during health care delivery.
