Curriculum Convention, 2022 Organized by Sikkim Manipal College of Nursing

 

  • Sikkim Manipal College of Nursing (SMCON), Sikkim Manipal University, conducted the first ever Curriculum Convention 2022, on “Outcome Based Education Framework for B Sc. Nursing Curriculum” on 15th and 16th December 2022. The purpose of the convention was to bring changes and improvement in Nursing Education Curriculum according to the needs of society.
  • The inaugural ceremony was graced by Honorable Vice Chancellor, Sikkim Manipal University, Lt. Gen. (Dr) Rajan S. Grewal, AVSM, VSM, Officiating Dean, Dr. Sanjiba Dutta, Medical Superintendent, Dr. Yogesh Verma, Principal, SMCON, Prof. Champa Sharma, Registrar and Assistant Registrar from Sikkim Nursing Council.  In addition, esteemed and eminent resource person Dean, Manipal College of Nursing, MAHE, Dr. Judith A. Noronha, and National Florence Nightingale Awardee Dr. Elsa Sanatombi Devi, Professor, MCON, MAHE Manipal, Alumni, nursing officer from CRH and STNM hospital and students of Sikkim Manipal College of Nursing. The welcome address was delivered by Prof. Binita Khati, HOD, Department of OBG Nursing, SMCON. The honorable Vice Chancellor, SMU, highlighted the salient features of Outcome based education and the importance of such convention in a higher educational institution.
  • The inaugural ceremony was followed by a brief session by Prof. Champa Sharma who highlighted the ‘Current challenges in Nursing Education’. Dr. Judith Angelitta Noronha, emphasized Reforms in Nursing Curriculum, OBE and Dr. Elsa Sanatombi Devi, spoke on Competency Based Education- which was followed by hands on training. Session on ‘Bridging the gap between theory and practice in nursing education’ was conducted by Mrs. Arkierupaia Shadap, Associate Professor, SMCON. A very interesting and fruitful Brainstorming was conducted at the end of each technical session moderated by Dr Barkha Devi, Scientific Committee Coordinator and Associate Professor SMCON.
  • The curriculum convention ended with the concluding remarks by Prof. Ranjita Devi, Vice Principal, SMCON. A vote of thanks was proposed by Mrs. Shrijana Pradhan, Assistant Professor, SMCON. A total of 90 participants actively participated in the curriculum convention 2022 and the two days event was extremely successful.
