Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT) held a groundbreaking 5-day workshop on "Official Statistics and Data Essentials: Sampling, Visualization, Reporting" from February 19-23, 2024. The workshop, hosted by the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), Department of Information Technology, and the Sampling and Official Statistics Unit, Indian Statistical Institute, (ISI) Kolkata, aimed to bridge the gap between diverse domains. Distinguished resource persons, including Prof. Nachiketa Chattopadhay, Prof. Aloke Kar, Prof. Diganta Mukherjee, Prof. Mausumi Bose, Prof. Anup Dewanji, and Prof. Bikram Mahapatra, gathered to discuss the importance of interdisciplinary education in the era of data-driven decision-making. Dr. Bikash Sharma, Head of the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, delivered the inaugural address of the workshop, emphasizing the significance of interdisciplinary education in the era of data-driven decision-making. The workshop also highlighted the significance of statistics in research and effective decision-making. The Valedictory Ceremony marked the culmination of the five-day workshop, highlighting the achievements and experiences gained. The workshop was attended by the Director of ISI Kolkata, Director of SMIT, Prof. G.L. Sharma, Prof. C. Bhuyan, Associate Directors, HoDs/HoOs, and the organizing committee. The workshop's participants shared feedback on the transformative impact, citing enhanced problem-solving capabilities, improved communication skills, and a renewed sense of purpose. Certificates of participation were presented to participants, recognizing their dedication and hard work. The workshop concluded with a closing address by Prof. (Dr.) Biswaraj Sen, encouraging participants to continue their learning journey and strive for excellence in their respective fields.
