The Department of Commerce, Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences and Liberal Arts, Sikkim Manipal University, organized an industrial visit to Temi tea Estate on 16 March 2024. The objective of the visit was to educate and familiarize the students with the production, management, accounting, finance, and export aspects of the Temi Tea Estate, the only organic tea estate in Sikkim. The Department’s M.Com (Accounting and Finance) students were accompanied by the Course Coordinator Ms. Deepa Sharma, Department of Commerce, along with other faculties of the Department. The designated guide of the Tea Estate demonstrated the production process of tea manufacturing and the different steps that led from the withering of the tea leaves to the final packaging of the product. The students were familiarized with the different grades of tea, their prices, target market, quality, and selling and distribution process. The guide addressed the students’ queries, which were primarily interested in knowing the marketing and distribution aspects of the tea-selling process. The students also mainly gathered knowledge on the exporting element of Temi tea, considered one of the best quality teas from India and sold in different foreign countries. The event was an enriching experience for the students as they could visualize in a practical setting the various aspects of working in a production unit in an organization. This is one of the many attempts by the Department to merge theory with practice in terms of imparting knowledge to their students, which also promotes their employability in the future.
