Programme Overview

Launched in 2006, the MSc Programme in Biostatistics at the Department of Data Science is a unique and specialized course designed to prepare students for careers in health and biological sciences by integrating statistics as a key decision-making tool. This program nurtures interdisciplinary expertise through a robust curriculum and practical training.

Programme objectives

  • Strong Methodological Foundations: Provide students with a solid grounding in applied statistics.
  • Versatile Training: Equip students with skills in data-centric research and statistical consultations.
  • Programming Proficiency: Develop competency in multiple programming environments, including R, STATA, SAS, SPSS, Python, and EPI Info.

Course Curriculum

 

Duration

Two-year full-time programme with a semester -based curriculum with a full semester dedicated to project/ thesis work and internship. 

 

Eligiblity Criteria

Graduates with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent grade in any of the following qualifications from UGC recognized universities are eligible to apply for the MSc (Biostatistics) program:

  • BSc in Statistics, Mathematics, or Computer Science
  • BE/B. Tech/BCA
  • Any other graduation with a minimum of two years of coursework in Mathematics or Statistics

 

Selection Criteria

Based on the merit of rank obtained in the entrance examination and/or personal interview. In the absence of an entrance examination/interview, the merit of rank is prepared by using the grade obtained in Mathematics and/or Statistics in the qualifying examinations.

Placement Assistance

Through collaborations with the industry as well as research institutes, the department provides placement assistance to successful students. We are proud of our alumni who have embarked on a career as biostatisticians, data scientists and researchers through campus placement opportunities.
