HEALTH AWARENESS ON BREAST AND CERVICAL CANCER CONDUCTED BY SIKKIM MANIPAL COLLEGE OF NURSING

Breast cancer and cervical cancer is the leading site of cancers among women in India and can be claimed to posing an important public health problem. Early detection and treatment of cervical and breast cancer could result in reduction of cancer cases.

The final year students of BSc. Nursing Programme of Sikkim Manipal College of Nursing (SMCON) had organized a 'Health Awareness Programme on Breast and Cervical Cancer 'at Government Secondary School, Duga, East Sikkim on 12th March 2020. The participants of the programme were female students of the school, accompanied by their mothers. The students of SMCON performed an educative mime followed by health education on breast and cervical cancer, its risk factors, signs and symptoms, preventive measures along with diagnostics and treatment modalities. The programme also highlighted the importance and methods of breast self-examination. An interactive question answer session was also held. The programme ended with a motivational group song and vote of thanks by the students of SMCON.
