School Health Programme - Substance Abuse

On 3rd November 2023, a School Health Programme was organized at Aho Shanti Secondary School of Aho Yangtam GPU, by the Vth Semester B. Sc Nursing students of Sikkim Manipal College of Nursing on the topic "Substance Abuse" The programme started at 11 am with a welcome speech by Ms Swastika Rai, student of SMCON and felicitation of the Chief Guest Mrs. Tshering Doma Bhutia Ward Panchayat.

A short welcome speech was given by the Headmaster of the school, Mr Issac Lepcha highlighting the need of such sensitization programs in the school. Mrs. Pranita Sharma Assistant Professor SMCON, Sensitized the students on effects and prevention of teenage pregnancy and also focussed on the role of the students, parents, school authorities, local governing bodies on prevention of unwanted crisis (Teenage pregnancy) among the adolescents.

The Vth Semester Students exhibited a role play on substance abuse highlighting the contributing factors and preventive aspects of substance abuse followed by a detailed health education using various audio- visual Aids.

The program was well accepted and appreciated by the participants. The effort put forward by the students to conduct the program was warmly appreciated by the school Head. The program came to an end with a lunch provided by the School to all the participants.

The total participants in the programme were 90 students, 23 teachers and parents, panchayat members ASHAs and the members of School Managing Committee
