Sikkim Manipal College of Nursing, Sikkim Manipal University Sikkim, 6th August 2024: The Faculty of Nursing Management and Final Year MSc. Nursing students of Sikkim Manipal College of Nursing hosted a one-day State level Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on "Nursing Shortage and Workforce Solution" on 6th August, 2024 at Sikkim Manipal College of Nursing (SMCON), Sikkim Manipal University (SMU).
The one-day Faculty Development Programme was conducted to update the knowledge, improve the quality of nursing education and to address the faculty shortage, along with implementation of effective workforce solutions.
The inaugural speech was given by Prof. Ranjita Devi, Programme Chairperson & Vice Principal, SMCON,SMU. The gathering was further addressed by the dignitaries which included Prof. Champa Sharma, Principal, SMCON, and Dr. Muralidhar Pai, Dean, Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences. Ms. Prasansha Chettri, MSc. Nursing, SMCON, Student Coordinator of FDP presented an overview of the FDP.
The workshop included four sessions by Dr. Barkha Devi, Associate Professor, SMCON,SMU highlighting "Current state of nursing & causes of Nursing Shortage" followed by a session on "Impact of Nursing Shortage" by Prof. M. Thoibi Devi Pradhan, Professor, SMCON,SMU. The third session included an interactive session led by Mrs. Kreeti Pal, Assistant Professor, Department of Hospital Administration, SMU and Dr. Swapnil Dixit, Assistant Professor, Department of Hospital Administration, SMU. The FDP was successfully conducted for total of 82 participants including the nurse managers of Central Referral Hospital, Faculties of Sikkim Manipal College of Nursing & Sikkim Professional College of Nursing and the students of 1st Year M.Sc. Nursing, SMCON. During pretest, 67% had inadequate knowledge while 33% had adequate knowledge and at the end of the session, 8% had inadequate knowledge and 92% had adequate knowledge showing increase in the knowledge level.
The programme ended with concluding remarks by Dr. Barkha Devi, Organizing Secretary, FDP and valedictory function by Ms Jemima, MSc. Nursing student, SMCON. The active participation of the delegates contributed to the success of the one-day Faculty Development Programme.
