  • The Department of General Medicine at SMIMS teaches undergraduate and postgraduate students aiming to train physicians with theoretical knowledge and by imparting technical skills and behavioural attributes so that they can serve the society.

DEPARTMENTAL HIGHLIGHTS

  • Department of Medicine consists of qualified and experienced faculty (3 professors, 1 assistant professors and 4 senior residents) catering to all patients requiring attention for medical problems.
  • Fully equipped 10 bedded ICU, renders round the clock intensive care to the needy patients supported by Department of Critical care.
  • Operational COVID ward (150) with 15 bedded ICU/HDU for care of sick patients with COVID pneumonia and other illness requiring isolation. A multi-disciplinary team is responsible for the smooth working, with Medicine Department being overall incharge.
  • Specialized Medicine services in the form of Gastroenterology consultation and intervention (UGIE colonoscopy variceal ligation and Banding) is regularly done by Dr. O. P. Dhakal, Consultant gastroenterologist.
  • Specialized cardiac investigations like echocardiography, holter monitoring and TMT are done routinely in the allied Cardiology department.
  • 8 bedded Haemodialysis unit, with dialysis facility, available round the clock.
  • Respiratory unit with specialized investigations like spirometry and bronchoscopy done by experienced chest physicians.
  • Experienced nutritionists look after the dietary requirements of all indoor and outdoor patients.
  • Outpatient care of patients goes on in Medicine OPD from 9 AM to 5 PM, consultants are available as per roster and patient care is given with utmost sincerity.Outdoor procedures and Investigations are also routinely done.
  • Department of Medicine regularly takes part in public health programmes like outreach camps for patients in remote rural areas.
  • Department of Medicine also regularly participates in health awareness campaigns spearheaded by CRH, for e.g. “World diabetes Day, World Thyroid Day, World health Day” etc.
  • CBME curriculum is implemented from 2019 batches onwards.
  • Dr. Bidita Khandelwal, HOD, Medicine Department is ex  Director, Directorate of Research SMU and  supervises  research activity  in the department. Other faculty and residents are also activity pursuing clinical research in their fields of interest.

Department of Medicine offers holistic treatment for all types of diseases along with medical treatment offered by experienced and dedicated doctors, advice regarding life style modifications like diet, exercise, yoga, quitting of alcohol and smoking etc are also imparted. The faculty are experienced in doing endoscopic procedures (both diagnostic and therapeutic), cardiological procedures (diagnostic and therapeutic), renal replacement therapy in the form of haemodialysis and respiratory procedures like spirometry and bronchoscopy.

  • Liver and gastrointestinal Clinic
  • COPD Clinic are held where special advice regarding the disease and free investigations related to the disease are provided on special days.
