CELEBRATION OF THE INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST DRUG ABUSE AND ILLICIT TRAFFICKING


The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is observed on 26 June every year with the aim to create awareness about issues related to drugs and strengthening action and cooperation in order to make the world free of drug abuse. Across the world, many individuals, organizations, and communities come together every year on the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking to inform people about the problems faced by society due to illegal drugs. In this regards the NSS cell of Sikkim Manipal University organised a National Webinar today on "Role of Youths for Sharing Facts on Drugs and Saving Lives" on 26th June 2021 to mark the celebration of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The webinar was jointly collaborated with the NYKS Eastern Region. Mr. Veerendra Mishra, IAS, Director, National Institute of Social Defence, Ministry of Social Justice, Government of India graced the occasion as the Chief Guest whereas Mr Nabin Kumar Naik, Regional Director, NYKS Eastern Region, Govt. of India attended the event as the Special Guest. Dr Shriprakash, Assistant Director, Regional Ayurvedic Research Institute, Gangtok, Sikkim was the keynote speaker on the occasion. A total of 120 participants from across the country took part in the webinar which was moderated by Mr Hemant K. Yadav, National Youth Awardee. Lectures were delivered on the theme of Drug Abuse and its consequences. Educational videos concerning drug abuse and its awareness were also played during the webinar. Dr Madan Chhetri, Coordinator, DHSS, SMU delivered the welcome address, and the vote of thanks was proposed by Uttam Kumar Upadhyaya, Assistant Professor and Programme Officer, NSS, SMU. The webinar also witnessed an interactive session wherein the resource persons replied to the questions put forward by the participants.
