Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT) a constituent college of Sikkim Manipal University conducted the first Curriculum Conclave on 9th and 10th May 2022, a unique event at SMIT, which brought together leading speakers who are experts in the field of Engineering, Basics Sciences and Management Studies from various parts of the country. The aim of the conclave was to establish dialogue among all key stakeholders to give shape to the vision of robust curriculum for the overall development of the learners and the facilitators. The inauguration ceremony on 9th May, was graced by Prof. (Dr) K Ramnarayan, Hon’ble Pro Chancellor, Sikkim Manipal University, as Chief Guest and Lt. Gen. (Dr) Rajan S Grewal, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Sikkim Manipal University as Guest of Honour, Prof. (Dr) Karma S Sherpa, Registrar, Sikkim Manipal University in addition to esteemed and eminent personnel from industry, academia, alumni, parents and students.  The welcome address was delivered by Prof. (Dr) Sangeeta Jha, Associate Director (Academics) and the convenor of the event. Prof. (Dr) Gurdaman Lal Sharma, Director Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology explained the significance of the event and how NEP 2020 is one of the main motivating factors behind the complete revamp of SMIT curriculum to align Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology with the vision of NEP 2020. The Chief guest, Prof. (Dr) K Ramnarayan, Hon’ble Pro Chancellor, Sikkim Manipal University explained the salient features that the curriculum should portray and the importance of such conclaves in a higher educational institution. The guest of honour, Lt. Gen. (Dr) Rajan S Grewal, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Sikkim Manipal University explained how Sikkim Manipal University is committed to NEP 2020 implementation.

The inauguration session was followed by four technical sessions where students of engineering, management and basic sciences departments presented their new curriculum structure. There were invited talks on the theme by Mr. Partha Pratim Roy, Lead Kolkata Operations, ZURU Tech India Pvt Ltd, Kolkata, Dr. Soumendra Bhattacharjee, Associate Professor, School of Economics, Commerce & Management, Assam University and Mr. Pragnajit Dutta Roy, Sr. Engineer, Qualcomm, Bangalore who is also the esteemed alumni of 2001 batch of Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology.

A very interesting and fruitful panel discussion was conducted at the end of the technical session moderated by Prof. (Dr) Sourav Dhar, Coordinator NEP Cell and HOD Electronics and Communication Engineering, SMIT. Various relevant topics like the objectives of NEP 2020 and relevance to the Atmanirbhar Bharat, future of modern technologies like electric vehicles and chip production in India, ethical value inculcation in students etc were discussed with great enthusiasm by the panel members and the audience.

The curriculum conclave ended with the concluding remarks of Prof. (Dr) G L Sharma, Director, Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology, and vote of thanks delivered by Dr Gopal Thapa, Deputy Registrar (Academics).

The second day was reserved for talks by the eminent alumni who addressed students of their respective departments to motivate and guide them.

The 2 day event has indeed been extremely successful and the suggestions and recommendations of the experts and the brainstorming among the panel members will definitely help in framing a curriculum that will benefit the students of Sikkim Manipal University so that they can attain their full potential and contribute towards the growth and development of our nation and the society as a whole.
