Dr. Tanaya Ghosh, M.Sc. in Microbiology with specialization in Bioinformatics from the North Bengal University, Siliguri, West Bengal, completed Ph.D. in 2017 from the Sikkim Manipal University. In 2012 she joined the post of Lecturer in the Dept. of Medical Biotechnology, SMIMS, SMU and is continuing the job as Assistant Professor since 2017.


Dr. Tanaya is trained in  the  methods  and  techniques  of  medical  biotechnology,  microbial biotechnology, computer  application  and  bioinformatics. Her research interest is in medicinal plants especially antioxidant activity of medicinal plants of Sikkim & Darjeeling Himalayas. She received Dr. TMA PAI University Research Fund of the Sikkim Manipal University in 2019 to research on Effect of season on chemical composition and antioxidant activity of Clerodendron infortunatum leaves of Sikkim origin.


Dr. Tanaya has guided 3 students in their research work and 21 students in their dissertation work. She has 68 research publications in peer reviewed indexed national & international journals and under her guidance 9 students published their research papers in journals of repute. She is the co-author of 1 book & 5 book chapters.


Dr. Tanaya attended many webinars, workshops, training programs, national & international seminars & conferences. In this context she travelled 20 countries. She received Travel Grant of USD 500 from 59th Laboratory Medicine Congress & Exhibition to present a poster in the conference held in Seoul, South Korea on November 1-3, 2018. In 2019 she chaired a session of BIOETHICON – 2019 (International Conference of UNESCO Bioethics) held on 8-10 November, 2019 at SRM University, Chennai.


Dr. Tanaya has been awarded with Spotlight award of the Sikkim Manipal University for exemplary act of undertaking various activities along with the academic activities in 2019. Her latest achievement is selection as a Global Investigator Awardee (Award: USD 100) by the LMCE 2021 (Laboratory Medicine Congress & Exhibition) & KSLM 62nd Annual Meeting held at Songdo Convensia, Incheon in Korea from September 30 to October 2, 2021    


Dr. Tanaya has extracurricular activities like singing, dancing and travelling.
