On 31st January 2020, 3rd year B.Sc Nursing students had organised a group health education programme on ‘Stress Management’ at  Psychiatry Ward, Central Referral Hospital.

 

CONTEXT :

Stress in everyday terms, is a feeling that people have when they are overloaded and struggling to cope with demands. These demands can be related to finances, work, relationships, and other situations, but anything that poses a real or perceived challenge or threat to a person's well-being can cause stress.  However, if this mechanism is triggered too easily, or when there are too many stressors at one time, it can undermine a person's mental and physical health and become harmful. Stress is also linked to 6 of the leading causes of death: heart disease, cancer, lung ailments, accidents, cirrhosis of the liver, and suicide. Therefore effective stress management is require which involves the use of coping strategies in response to stressful situation through the use of techniques such as ABC’s of stress management, diversion activities,  laughter therapy etc.

 

OBJECTIVES :

This programme was aimed for the patient and the relatives of the patient from different wards such as psychiatry ward, medicine ward, and the surgery ward with the message of common stressors, it’s causes, purposes of stress management, it’s benefits and different techniques of stress management.

 

THE PROGRAMME  :

The programme  was started with the welcome speech by the student followed by the role play which delivered the message of different techniques of stress management and can be utilized by the patients as well as by the relatives . The health talk was given by the students with the help of A V aids followed by interactive session with the patients and the relatives at the end.
