The NSS Cell, Sikkim Manipal University conducted a Plantation Drive, in the medical campus, on Friday, the 7th of June, 2019 to mark the observation of World Environment Day, 2019. As a part of the observation, the NSS Volunteers of the Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences and Sikkim Manipal College of Nursing presented a small skit reflecting the need of cleanliness and preservation of environment in the present day scenario.The student volunteers also presented posters showing the degradation of environment due to human negligence and conveyed the message of environmental values. Prof. Sanjiba Dutta, Officiating Dean, SMIMS; Dr. Gautam Dey, MS, CRH; Mr. MS Sridhar, HR Head, SMU; Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Head, Physiology Department, SMIMS; Col. Uma Kant Singh,Head, General Services, SMU; Mr. Pradeep Kumar Chaturvedi, Sr. Finance Officer, SMU; Dr. Nikita Joshi, Principal, SMCPT; Mr. Madan Chhetri, Coordinator, HSS, SMU; faculty members and students from SMIMS, SMCON, SMCPT, and Department of Humanities & Social Sciences, SMU participated in the event.

However, the NSS Volunteers of Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT) observed World Environment Day in the Technical Campus on 5th June, 2019 by conducting a plantation drive. Members of the teaching as well as non-teaching fraternity also participated in the event.
