OBJECTIVES

 At the end of the session, the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) students should be able to:

  1. Identify the basic medicolegal aspects of hospital and general practices.
  2. Define the medicolegal responsibilities of a general physician while rendering community service in either a rural Primary Health Centre (PHC) or an Urban Health Centre.
  3. Make observations and logical inferences to initiate enquiries in criminal matters and medico-legal problems.
  4. To make observations and to interpret findings at post-mortem examination.
  5. Ability to serve the State of Sikkim by facilitating the investigation & providing aid to law enforcement agency in all medicolegal cases.

  • Documentation and certification of Trauma
  • Diagnosis and certification of death.
  • Legal documentation related to emergency cases.
  • Certification of medico-legal cases. E.g., Age estimation, Sexual Assault, etc.
  • Establishing communication in medico-legal cases with police, public health authorities.
  • Observe medico-legal autopsy or post-mortem examination.
