Theme: “Mental health is a universal human right”
World Mental Health Day is observed on 10th October every year, with the overall objective of raising awareness of mental health problems. This year, an education program was organized by the students of 2nd year MSc. Nursing, Department of Mental Health Nursing, SMCON under the supervision of the Mental Health Nursing specialty teachers from Sikkim Manipal College of Nursing (SMCON).
The program was conducted on 10th of October 2023 in the Psychiatric Unit, Central Referral Hospital, Gangtok. The program began with the introduction of the day’s theme by Ms. Prasansha Chhetri, followed by causes of mental illness, mental health rights, clinical manifestations, misconceptions regarding mental illness, early initiation and continuation of treatment, and follow-up.
The program was graced by the presence of Prof. Champa Sharma, Principal, SMCON, Mrs. Prerna Karki, Associate Professor, SMCON, and Mrs. Nazung Lepcha, Assistant Lecturer, SMCON. The program came to an end with a small interactive session.
