Overview

There are strong research activities at SMIT, Majitar, East Sikkim. In addition to teaching and examination activities our faculty members are trying their level best to maintain their research work / interest. They are good number of sponsored research projects from various sponsoring agencies like, Department Science and Technology (DST), Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), National Natural Resources Management System (NNRMS), Department of Information and Electronics Technology (DeitY), Ministry of Science & Technology, GOI and Sikkim Manipal University (SMU).

The research activities are in general across all the departments of SMIT. Out of these research activities SMIT has developed very good infrastructural facilities. These facilities are now not only being used by the faculty members but the students are also using these facilities for their project work. Every year SMIT is providing a large amount of fund which is being used for research work. A large number of research students are enrolling with PhD program every year.

 

The outcome of these research activities are as follows:

 

1. Number of SMIT faculty members attended conferences during the year:

i. 2013-2014: 48

ii. 2014-2015 (till November 2014): 31

 

2. Number of paper published from SMIT during the year:

i. 2013-2014: 136

ii. 2014-2015 (till November 2014): 202

 

3. Number of sponsored project received during the year:

i.  2013-2014: 4        

ii. 2014-2015 (till November 2014): 2

iii. Total number of sponsored projects: 55

 

4.      Number of Ph.D. Registration in the current year: 13

5.      Number of Ph.D. Awarded in the current year: 5

6.      Total Number of Ph.D. Awarded from SMIT: 19
