The Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology was established in 1997 as a constituent college of Sikkim Manipal University and is approved by AICTE. The Engineering College has its own campus at Majitar, Rangpo (Sikkim-West Bengal border), East Sikkim. The institute’s location on the banks of river Teesta, surrounded by green hills, adds to the vibrancy of the campus and makes it an ideal place for learning.

Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology is fully residential with separate Hostels for boys and girls, and provides excellent accommodation to over 3000 students. The hostel rooms are two-seaters, well furnished, and have attached bathrooms with hot water supply. There are separate Students’ Messes for boys and girls. There is also a Common Canteen, a Food Court and a separate Girls’ Canteen providing vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals. Recreation rooms with TVs, separate gymnasiums for boys and girls and sports facilities are available. A well furnished Guest House is available in the campus. There are well equipped laboratories and an adequate number of lecture halls; some equipped with modern audio-visual teaching aids. The Institute has a well equipped library which caters to the needs of students and teachers. The Library stocks course related books as well as various other general and technical books. The Developing Library Network (DELNET) facility provides on-line access to leading libraries in the country.
The Institute has an efficient Placement Cell, which ensures campus placements for students. 90.89% of eligible
students have been offered placements in reputed MNCs/PSUs. viz. Microsoft, TCS, SONY, Wipro, HCL, ACC,
L&T, Apollo, Wells Fargo, HDFC, Central Bank of India, IDBI to name a few.

Air
Jet Airways, Indian Airlines and Air Deccan operates daily. From the airport one can take a taxi to the campus at Majhitar, Rangpo. The drive takes about two hours. One can also use the helicopter services to travel between Bagdogra and Gangtok.
Train
One can travel by train from any part of the country to New Jalpaiguri or Siliguri. From there the journey by road to the campus takes about two and half hours.
Road
Long distance buses and taxies ply from major towns in West Bengal and Assam to Siliguri. The journey from Siliguri to the campus can be made by bus or taxi via the Himalayan foothills along the Teesta and Rangit rivers passing through the towns of Teestabazar, Melli and Rangpo.

| SMIT being a fully residential campus offers a higher degree of security and safety to the students. It is one of the most seeked campus for a girl child by their parents. The campus offers students all varied extra and co-curricular activities. The students involve themselves in playing games like cricket, football, badminton, lawn-tennis, table-tennis, basket ball, snooker,etc. The students also gets involved in various activities: like college magazine, departmental wall magazines, robotics, etc. The music and literary club also functions to cater the overall development of an individual. |
